Starting in May, we are adding a Thursday night class.  The first one will be May 6th, 7PM to 8:30PM.

For those that plan to attend both classes each week, we will be offering a monthly membership to make it more affordable.  The per class fee of $10 will still be available for those that prefer it.

Thanks to everyone that came out to make out opening night a success.  I really appreciate those that made the trip from Montreal to participate in the demonstration.

To announce the opening of Glengarry Jiu Jitsu there will be a free demonstration and information session on Friday Match 26th, from 7PM to 8PM at 102 Derby Street in Alexandria.

Top students and instructors from Montreal’s West Island Jiu Jitsu club will show different aspects of Jiu Jitsu, including sport, combat, and self-defense applications.  Ron Pattyn and Ord Millar will be on hand to explain the principles, and answer any questions.  Everyone attending will receive a coupon for a free trial class.

The Brazilian style of Jiu Jitsu is a martial art that has become popular since it appeared as a primary fighting style in mixed martial arts challenges such as the UFC.  Today most MMA athletes include it as part of their training.  This style uses throws, reversals and pins to control the opponent with joint locks or choke holds to end the fight.  The sport version of this art provides a safe, fun workout that develops balance, stamina, core body strength and cardiovascular fitness.

Ron Pattyn, originally from Alexandria, is the head instructor of Montreal’s West Island Jiu Jitsu.  Ord Millar, a brown belt instructor under Pattyn, has recently moved to South Glengarry and will be offering classes in Alexandria.  Millar has been a regular at Jiu Jitsu and grappling competitions since taking up the sport, and has won numerous medals and trophies including two advanced masters championship belts from the Joslins Canadian Open.
